” When I am in my painting, I’m not aware of what I’m doing. It is only after a sort of “get acquainted” period that I see what I have been about. I have no fears about making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through. It is only when I lose contact with the painting that the result is a mess. Otherwise there is pure harmony, an easy give and take, and the painting comes out well. ” Jackson Pollock, quoted by Frank O’Hara

Carla Uriarte grew up in San Francisco. The half Filipino, half Spanish illustrator moved to Spain when she was just 18 to study editorial illustration and lived there for 5 years before moving to Sydney to complete her studies at the Enmore Design Center in graphic illustration.
Carla has always been inspired and drawn towards art and illustration. There was that one defined moment, when she lived in Spain where her friends would see Carla drawing all the time and they encouraged her to persue her passion as a career.
Carla’s blog www.carlauriarte.com is a nostalgic memoir to the creations she as made to remember all the amazing work she has done. Not only does is feature her art and illustrations but her poetry and thoughts, a kinda mental regurgitation of thought if you will. She freelance’s for Vice.com and her blog is pat of the Vice Blogging Network.
Now that Carla has finished her studies, she is pushing forward to make a career from her hobby and passion.
