‘Not in a forthright manner’ is a group exhibition in Belgium that brings together 4 leading people in the Skateboarding Industry. It’s an interesting mix of photography, paint on skateboards and a video projections in a closet. Here some input about the participants:
Stijn Lammertyn has been a staple of Ghent´s skateboarding scene for almost two decades. Always left with some extra energy after the session, Stijn studied graphic design, was the team manager for Torture skateboards & Mobile wheels and thought himself how to use a video camera. He now works for various brands in the surf, bike and skateboard industry.
Studying product design and shooting pictures of his friends´ snowboarding while spending the winter in the Alps lead to Jelle Keppens starting SCS Magazine and consequently getting sucked into skateboarding when he got back to Belgium. Jelle is currently working as a staff photographer for Volcom’s intl. skateboard team and Belgian skateboard magazine Wood.
Davy Van Laere does not like it when stuff doesn´t work out and pushes through until he´s pleased with the results. In skateboarding this meant a reputation and being a mini ramp champ. In photography this means a crazy work ethic and a lot of well-received results. DvL works for Wood Magazine, also freelance for several European skateboard magazines, Vans´European skateboard team as a staff photographer, and is currently one of Antwerp´s city photographers.

Stijn Claikens skated for a little while back in the 80´s but it seems as if he still carries a lot of the visual aspects of that era with him.
Bold colours, some humour and true-to-life images in the form of oil on canvas. Shut up and paint.
